Undoes tenure protections, hurting academic freedom. Shifts all faculty hiring to Boards of Trustees and bans considering DEI in hiring or promotion. Removes “gender” from non-discrimination funding policy. By defunding campus activities that support DEI or CRT, threatens every state university’s LGBTQ+ support programs and other diversity programs. Signed into law by DeSantis.
Near Total Abortion Ban
Imposes the cruelest six-week abortion ban (must be triggered into effect) in the US, before most people realize they are pregnant, requiring 2 in-person appointments at least 24 hours apart to access care; includes largely unworkable exceptions up to 15 weeks. Allocates $25 million annually to fund crisis pregnancy centers, not staffed by medical professionals, bound by HIPAA, and established to talk patients out of accessing an abortion. A prime example of extremist politicians taking away our freedom, this will disproportionately harm Black, Latino, and Indigenous communities, people with low incomes, people who identify as LGBTQ+, and people living in rural areas.
